Reception & Acclimatization

1–2 days

Your clone has arrived! Now it's time to stay calm and give the little plant time to adjust to its new environment. Only half-open the packaging and let the clone acclimatize for 2–3 hours. Wash and disinfect your hands before touching the plant.

Checklist

Temperature

20–25 °C

Humidity

70–80%

Light

Indirect light

Ventilation

Light air circulation

Pro Tip

Take a photo of the unopened packaging right away – this protects you in case of claims.

Pro Tip

Place the clone in a bright spot without direct sunlight.

Growing Cannabis Clones – Your Complete Grow Guide

Growing cannabis clones is one of the most efficient methods for cultivating healthy, high-yielding plants. Our Grow Guide walks you through the entire process in 8 clearly structured phases – from receiving and acclimatizing your clones to harvesting and final curing. Along the way, you'll benefit from field-tested pro tips, detailed checklists, and clear recommendations for each phase.

Why start with clones? Compared to growing from seeds, clones offer decisive advantages: you work with known genetics, skip the germination phase, and start with a plant whose growth behavior, flowering time, and yield potential are already predictable. This saves time, reduces risks, and leads to significantly better results – especially for beginners.

Our interactive guide covers all the essential topics: the right temperature and humidity, optimal light cycles for vegetative and flowering phases, training techniques like topping and LST, and identifying the ideal harvest time using trichome coloration. Each phase includes a practical checklist so you never miss a step.

For the best start, we recommend our LeafConnect clones from Austria. All clones are HLVd-tested, come from verified mother plants, and are securely delivered to your home in specially designed transport boxes. Combine the knowledge from this guide with our premium clones and start your grow project with maximum chances of success.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cannabis Growing

Depending on the strain and growing method, it takes approximately 10–16 weeks from clone to harvest.

The vegetative phase lasts 3–6 weeks, the flowering phase 6–10 weeks.

After that, drying and curing (3–6 weeks) follow, which are crucial for flavor and quality.

For the vegetative phase, you need a light cycle of 18 hours light and 6 hours darkness (18/6).

During the flowering phase, switch to 12/12.

LED lights are energy-efficient and produce less heat.

For a 1 m² grow space, aim for 200–400 watts of LED or 400–600 watts of HPS.

LED lights are generally more efficient, producing roughly 2.0–2.5 µmol/J compared to 1.5–1.7 µmol/J for HPS.

Watering depends on pot size, growing medium, and growth phase.

As a rule of thumb: water when the top 2–3 cm of substrate are dry.

Overwatering is one of the most common beginner mistakes.

It's better to water a little less than too much – roots need oxygen too.

Switch to the flowering phase when your plant has reached about half of its desired final height.

Keep in mind that the plant can still gain 25–200% in height depending on genetics (indica-dominant strains stretch less) during the first 2 weeks of flowering (stretch).

For indoor growing, you control the switch through the light cycle (12/12).

Observe the trichomes with a magnifying glass or pocket microscope.

When about 70% of trichomes are milky-white and 30% are amber, the optimal harvest time has been reached.

Clear trichomes indicate an immature plant, while too many amber trichomes suggest a late harvest.

After drying (7–14 days at 18–21°C and 55–65% humidity), curing follows in airtight jars.

Open the jars daily for a few minutes during the first two weeks.

Store the finished harvest in a dark, cool, and dry place.

A hygrometer in the jar helps maintain the ideal humidity of 58–62%.

Start very low for rooted clones (EC 0.2–0.4).

During vegetative growth, gradually increase to EC 0.8–1.4.

In flowering, use EC 1.2–2.0, then reduce in the last 1–2 weeks when flushing.

Always measure runoff EC – if it's much higher than input EC, you're overfeeding.

Most growers flush for 1–2 weeks before harvest by feeding only plain, pH-adjusted water.

This allows the plant to consume stored nutrients, potentially improving the taste and smoothness of the final product.

Some growers and studies debate the necessity, but it remains standard practice.

Wet trimming means removing sugar leaves immediately after cutting, while the plant is still fresh.

It's faster and easier for beginners.

Dry trimming means drying the whole branch first, then trimming.

Dry trimming is slower but can result in a more even, slower dry which some growers believe improves terpene preservation.

Transplant when roots start circling the bottom of the current pot or emerging from drainage holes.

A common progression is: clone cup (0.5 L) → small pot (1–3 L) → final pot (7–15 L for indoor).

Transplant to the final pot at least 1–2 weeks before switching to 12/12, so roots can establish before flowering stress.
